Rainy Days, Romantasy, and Big Girl Pants

Hello, lovely fantasy readers!

It’s another damp day here in tropical Queensland’s wet season—no surprises there. Rain means the dogs are stuck inside, and let me tell you, they’re not thrilled about it. Usually at this time (morning) of the day, they’re living their best lives outdoors: digging holes, trashing gardens, playing zoomies, and barking at anything that dares exist. Lucky for us, we’re on acreage, so their chaos is mostly contained. But today? They’re sulking inside because apparently getting wet is so beneath them.

Big news in the writing world or well – my writing corner of the couch: my romantic action fantasy (or “romantasy”) novel, The Chameleons, is officially in the hands of a beta reader. Hitting send on that email was a full-on “big girl pants” moment. Seriously, I hovered over the button for longer than I’d like to admit. It’s a mix of terror and excitement waiting for feedback, but I’m telling myself it’s all part of the process. Right?

Right.

Oh, and speaking of The Chameleons, here’s a little eye candy for you: this is how I imagine Yren the male lead.

You’re welcome.

The final read-through and edits before sending it off took way longer than planned, which means everything else got shoved to the back burner this week. But I’m diving back into The Rise in the Evition trilogy now. Book 2’s first half is due to my editor on March 3rd (gulp), so I’m busy busy writing and revising.

Plus, I’m juggling final edits for Blood Secrets, the second book in The Vampire King’s Daughter series .

On the brighter side, I’ve had a breakthrough on the cover concept for The Chameleon’s. It’ll be much simpler than I originally envisioned, which honestly feels like a win. This week, I’ll be sketching out a few ideas. I could use Procreate for this, but there’s something about pencil and paper that just feels… right. Old-school, but it works for me.

Oh, and meet my pet of the week: Tara! She’s just as sweet as she looks. (And yes, I’m totally biased.)

That’s it from me for the week! Wishing you happy reading, dragons that soar high, and vampires that are hot but definitely not thirsty.
